This is a great opportunity to mix two amazing things: programming and game design! Some of your responsibilities will be:
Execute on the creative vision for the assigned project
Create design ideas and concepts related to new and existing features, together with your team
Prototype new feature ideas through Java code
Take ownership of a feature and its design quality from ideation to release

Experience working with game design in the games industry.
Strong knowledge of game design and understanding of contextualized design
Desire to be part of a creative and highly collaborative team and ability to take feedback and direction.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written form, to support your vision

Overall, we think that you have the ability to drive an idea from concept to completed feature in a collaborative environment. You are a team player, who understands the importance of communication when working in a small team with a lot of stakeholders. Finally, you are humble, but yet really good at what you do.

Mojang Studios is best known as the creators of Minecraft, but we’re also on a mission – to build a better world through the power of play.
Why play? Well, play is at the heart of everything we do. It’s the blocky backbone of our games, the core of our development philosophy, and even the origin of our name. From the relentless experimentation of our endlessly inspiring community to the classrooms where Minecraft has become an essential teaching tool, play is the bedrock of our existence.
Mojang Studios seeks an experienced Narrative Designer to help develop story opportunities in and around all the Minecraft game experiences we make. Minecraft is fortunate to be one of the most widely played games in the world, drawing in millions of new and experienced, young and old players from around the globe, and every one of those players creates their own story inside the Minecraft universe. As a Narrative Designer, your work and passion will enhance those players' stories and the enduring mysteries at the heart of our blocky world.
All applicants for this position must demonstrate significant experience and accomplishment in both storytelling in video games and in your personal relationship with Minecraft (both classic Minecraft and very preferably also Minecraft Dungeons).
The narrative designer is responsible for collaborating effectively with internal and external partners to expand Minecraft worldbuilding and constantly strengthen Minecraft's legacy of vibrant player storytelling.
Among other responsibilities, the Narrative Designer will:
Create new stories, characters, and essential elements of environmental storytelling for a wide range of narrative experiences. Different Minecraft games have widely varying narrative needs, and you will be flexible enough to see the value in all of these different styles.
Help educate internal and external partners about Minecraft's storytelling history, opportunities, and unique style of worldbuilding. This education will require the ability to adapt communication and documentation styles to meet your audiences' many varied needs. You should be able to demonstrate your proven ability to evangelize the value of tightly integrated narrative design across art, gameplay, user experience, and audio partners.
Create and maintain internal worldbuilding reference material and be adept at repurposing that reference material to address the needs of multiple game and non-game creative audiences.
Lead production and communication efforts for narrative projects as needed. You already have a demonstrable ability to build and drive production schedules and feedback loops for new content creation.
Partner effectively with out-of-game storytelling opportunities such as print publishing and other consumer products to help build authenticity and worldbuilding opportunities even when players aren't actively playing.
Build a better world. One of Mojang's core values is the aspiration that Minecraft can help players have a positive impact on the world around them. This aspiration is a very natural partner to all of our core game creation decisions, and you will bring a unique perspective and resolve to the question of how our stories can make a difference both in and out of our games.
Be an avid consumer and reasonable critic of Minecraft and video games more broadly. You must love games, but in a way that still allows you to acknowledge their flaws. Your passion for narrative in games will lead to unexpected inspiration for and sometimes challenging conversations about the responsibilities of interactive storytelling.

Requirements:
Tangible proof that you have done all the responsibilities listed above.
Self-awareness sufficient to say how you can do more than a few of those things better next time. We are all learning, and we're looking forward to learning with and from you!

At Mojang, we create games, products and services to inspire creativity. We develop games with a strong community focus and put players first in everything we do. Our games are built for everyone, because we believe in demonstrating equality and not just talking about it.
Within Mojang’s Creative Group, the Consumer Products team is the one that oversees production of physical products and experiences, with the aim to extend community engagement beyond the game. Currently, the team is a small crew of producers and designers who review business cases and strategies to turn them into creative briefs for production. They also manage creative production partners across various projects and initiatives, and last but not least, oversee our licensee partners, ensuring all of their work is on brand and quality. Our plan is to extend their work beyond our main title Minecraft –with two new games on their way, a movie in the works, and a ton of amazing opportunities in new markets coming up, we’re looking to add a key member to the team who can help us plan all of these exciting initiatives and take them from business and strategy goals into production.
As the Art Director / Creative Lead for the Consumer Products Creative Team, you’re highly strategic and are a natural at putting together and presenting inspiring creative ideas, without losing sight of business and strategy plans. Together with the Lead Producer, you are the go-to for the business team to review interesting new opportunities for our brand and identify how we can, in our own Minecraft way, approach them. For the designers on our team, you're the connector, ensuring all of the work we do follows a red thread and lines up with the bigger picture. You'll be depended on to mentor, develop and coach our amazing designers, simultaneously elevating our team and our products.

Requirements
Being highly conceptual and creative is a given in this senior role. We also expect you to be/have:
Well versed in production, and having solid experience as an art director
Confident working in Adobe Creative Suite and be a pro when it comes to presenting and rationalising creative and design choices to various stakeholder groups.
Excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities (as this role is a very outward-facing one)

We'd love to hear about your previous experiences presenting concepts and then bringing them to life, juggling the needs of various stakeholders in large scale initiatives, coaching and developing teams, and managing wide-ranging demands from a large number of either internal or external partners.
In this senior level role at Mojang, we'd also love for you to level up the rest of our company, by either supporting & mentoring colleagues, hosting demos and sharing knowledge of the projects the team is working on, or any other ways you can impart your experience and knowledge. Since this role sits at the intersection of Consumer Products and Gaming, past experience in either (or both!) industry is greatly preferred.
If you feel like this role is a great fit, you have a calm disposition, value team collaboration, and are super excited by the prospect of creating physical products and playful experiences to extend engagement with our community beyond the game, we’d love to hear from you!
