The Environmental Policy and Strategy (EPS) team at SEI specializes in complex stakeholder management, with a focus on transitional countries and regions. The team supports governments in demand-driven sustainable, environmental and climate transitions in the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia) and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries (Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). Our activities include developing and implementing comprehensive environmental strategies and action plans, designing and supporting national sustainability transition efforts, assessing national environmental, energy and climate sectoral policies, and building capacity to support EU accession processes in various candidate and potential candidate countries.
The role
SEI HQ is seeking a Project Coordinator with a strong background in project management and a keen interest in environmental protection and climate change. The successful candidate will join the EPS team, providing technical support to a diverse portfolio of projects (such as, the Green Agenda for Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, (GA GUMA) project) in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) and Western Balkan (WB) countries.
Working closely with the EPS team lead, you will support various operational tasks and the implementation of different projects. This role includes project management, reporting, budgeting, administration, procurement, logistical support, data collection, research and the preparation of background documents. The Project Coordinator will also play a crucial role in identifying new opportunities and supporting the development of future projects.
Key duties and responsibilities
Project management support:
Ensure the smooth day-to-day implementation of projects.
Assist in project planning, budgeting, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
Administrative and procurement support:
Support procurement processes, including drafting Terms of Reference, ensuring technical service delivery and managing contractual obligations.
Event coordination:
Organize and manage logistics for meetings, events, workshops and webinars, including scheduling, content development and logistical arrangements.
Research and documentation:
Collect and analyse data, contribute to research efforts, and prepare necessary documents such as policy papers, analyses, summaries and communication inputs.
Team collaboration:
Work closely with EPS team members to implement the EPS strategy and action plans, fostering a collegial and collaborative team environment.
Support EPS team members on WB- and EaP-related projects and initiatives as needed.
Opportunity and partnership development:
Identify new partnerships and fundraising opportunities and contribute to developing new projects.
Who you are
We are looking for an organized, proactive and curious project coordinator who will help our team thrive by ensuring our projects run smoothly and efficiently. You enjoy diving into sustainability challenges and are an outstanding team player with good listening skills and a collaborative spirit in diverse and dynamic settings.
Required qualifications, skills and experience:
An advanced university degree in project management, international relations, political science, sociology, social sciences, public administration, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in designing, planning, and implementing project activities, including administration, logistics, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
At least three years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, environmental protection, or public policy, preferably within government, international organizations, or NGOs.
Experience or interest in fundraising, including bid preparation and grant writing.
Professional fluency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and MS Project, and other relevant software such as Asana.
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.
Cultural sensitivity and international working experience.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to convey SEI’s core values in daily work, including respect and trust.
The ideal candidate would also bring the following:
Familiarity with the EU Green Deal (EUGD), including EU environmental priorities, policies and regulations.
Understanding of the EU enlargement process, progress and requirements.
Recent or relevant experience related to the EaP countries.
Knowledge of Eastern European languages (e.g., Armenian, Georgian, Romanian, Ukrainian).

Additional information
This is a two-year temporary position with possibility for extension with placement at SEI HQ in Stockholm, Sweden. The start date is as soon as possible or by arrangement.
SEI has a hybrid work environment, allowing you to share your time between the SEI office and working remotely from your home in Sweden. Please note that it is not possible to work from outside Sweden.
