Today, Ericsson owns one of the ICT industry's most valuable patent portfolios consisting of 60,000 granted patents in the areas of cellular technology, consumer electronics, cloud, networks and beyond. 
The Patent Unit Kista2&India; is a multi-national and multi-cultural team of patent professionals and paralegals. We are part of the global IPR & Licensing organization in Ericsson and are responsible for inventions originating from Ericsson R&D sites worldwide. 
We are now expanding our team in Kista, Sweden and are looking for a motivated patent attorney who strives to contribute to one of the industry’s largest patent portfolios. 

What You Will Do 

•    Provide IPR support for Ericsson’s R&D activities, working closely with inventors and cutting-edge technologies in the field of video coding. 
•    Evaluate inventions, draft and prosecute patent applications, coordinate national filings and preparation of claim charts. 
•    Support key licensing and litigation initiatives. 
•    Depending on your qualifications, you may take responsibilities related to patent portfolio management.
•    Contribute to internal projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.


The Skills You Bring

•   Master’s degree in engineering, physics or computer science.
•   Qualification as a European Patent Attorney (also partially qualified) or experience as a patent examiner or patent engineer in the telecommunications sector.
•    Experience with drafting and prosecuting applications (EP, US).
•   Expertise in media coding is highly advantageous.

About the Role

In this role, you will work closely with the product development team to identify and protect key innovations. You will play a crucial role in managing patent strategy and portfolio development, ensuring that BabyBjörn continues to leverage intellectual property as a key business asset. The position reports to our Global General Counsel and involves collaboration with internal teams and external patent attorneys worldwide.

Your work will include FTO – searches, patent drafting, risk assessments, competitor analysis, and IP training, ensuring that our teams understand and value intellectual property protection. You will be an integral part of the product development process, providing practical legal guidance from concept to launch.

Key Responsibilities are:
• Conduct FTO analyses, perform prior art searches, monitor competitor patents, and guide internal teams on IP risk management.
• Identify and manage patentable innovations, oversee BabyBjörn’s patent portfolio, and align strategies with business objectives.
• Develop training programs to enhance IP awareness and foster a culture of innovation.
• Serve as a bridge between internal teams and external patent attorneys, support patent litigation, and provide strategic IP advice.

Who You Are

Your mission
As the Head of Patents, you’re a crucial driving force behind our intellectual property strategy, as you with your skilled specialist function in collaboration with the Business Area General Counsel and the Division lead all work with IP matters within our business area segment. This includes shaping, managing and enforcing our Technology IP portfolio in alignment with business priorities, and managing risks associated with third-party Technology IP, as well as securing compliance with relevant policies.

Your character
We’re looking for a Patent Attorney and/or someone with a Law degree and extensive experience of managing patents in a global environment. You have a strong understanding of patent law and regulations, both national and international, and proficiency in financial planning and reporting related to intellectual property, as well as a passion for technology. Your background also includes managing and developing diverse teams. As we act both locally and in a global setting, you need excellent communication skills in English, verbally and in writing, while Swedish is a plus.

A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK:
As a Patent Attorney you will be working closely with the R&D teams in the areas of Connectivity and Electronics. The major part of the responsibility includes giving general advice on patent matters. You also manage, independently or through external consultants, activities either related to patent portfolio creation/management (like prior-art searches, patent drafting and prosecution) or to freedom-to-use analyses and risk assessment. The responsibility also includes handling/supporting oppositions and patent conflicts. You are also expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of the global IP function within Electrolux. You will work in a team and have close cooperation with the attorneys, patent engineers and IP assistants to deliver outstanding support.

Qualifications:
· 3+ years of experience in a similar position
· Registered for practice nationally or before the EPO (or at least be close to finalizing the corresponding examinations)
· Academic degree, preferably in engineering
· Broad technical competence in the areas of new digital technologies, relating to ‘Internet of Things’ and thereto connected areas like AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Cybersecurity, Cloud, communication technologies etc.

Innovation is a cornerstone of Electrolux operations and as such, Intellectual Property has an ever-increasing profile within the company and is acknowledged as being of paramount importance to the organization’s continued commercial success. As global VP of IP, you will lead the Group Patent function and report to the Group’s Chief Technology Officer. This is an integral position within the organization, requiring an experienced and talented IP leader with demonstrable track record of leading an IP function within a global multinational. In addition to the technical and digital transformation at Electrolux, we are undergoing significant internal transformation, with strong emphasis on becoming increasingly innovation (and therefore patent) led. Electrolux is anticipating sector developments that parallel those in high-tech growth sectors such as telecoms, automotive and IoT, and we have begun to make strides to capitalise on our position at the forefront of the appliances market.
We are thus seeking an individual not just capable of adapting to anticipated sectoral evolution, but eager to seize this unique opportunity to continue to be a driving force behind our innovation transformation. The incoming VP of IP will thus be a figurehead for internal change management, with key responsibility for driving Electrolux’s evolution from its historic roots, closer to the cutting edge of innovation.
The position – ideally based at the headquarters in Stockholm – has full responsibility for the leadership and management of Electrolux Group Patent function. As VP IP, you will lead a global patents team of approximately 40 people.
You will lead (including handling the forecasting and business planning matters) the Group Patent department through an exciting period of change, with the competitor landscape necessitating additional and increased licensing activities. You will do so in strong collaboration with the Legal department, the latter being responsible for the maintenance of the trademark portfolio, domain names and IP litigation.
You will, together with other relevant internal stakeholders, have a key role in establishing an overall effective organization and structure around IP, after having had an opportunity to shape the company’s IP strategy.


Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, inter alia:
• Developing and maintaining a forward-thinking IP strategy, in close collaboration with R&D, Legal and business units amongst others
• Management responsibility for the Group Patent function
• Proactively increasing the value and awareness of innovation related IP within the company
• Active engagement by leading and driving the development of the organization focusing on continuous improvements and drive change throughout the business organization
• Ensure excellent working relationship with the Legal functions in order to drive matters collaboratively
• Further developing the digital tools within the function and together with the internal partners
• Developing the organization and processes for increased Group efficiency & transparency.


THE CANDIDATE
The successful candidate is likely to fulfil the following criteria:
• Possess significant experience in relevant areas of Intellectual Property rights, coupled with experience working in an international corporate environment;
• Extensive background (c.10+ years’ experience) within a leadership position;
• Qualification as a European or US Patent Attorney, or suitable qualification with sufficient immersion in the patent field;
• Education to MSc level or beyond in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or a related field;
• Excellent understanding and hands on experience of all aspects of patent management and its components e.g. awareness, generation, administration, reporting, risk management, strategy, enforcement, defence, transaction – experience in a software/digital environment is a strong plus
• Previous leadership experience of organizational change and transformation, showcasing true leadership in Diversity & Inclusion
• Possess excellent leadership and organizational skills with the ability to instil confidence and trust in others and thus enhance and sustain the performance of his/her team;
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate comfortably at all levels within the organization;
• Proven experience of being able to adapt flexibly to new market requirements, develop new approaches and shape processes;
• Possess extensive experience of providing IP advice to board-level and other senior management;
• Possess significant experience in negotiating and drafting patent & technology license agreements;
• Business understanding and a strategic mindset;
• An ability to drive strategy, build effective relationships, and motivate, develop and retain talent;

You will
Be at the forefront of technological development and become a specialist in helping inventors protect their technological ideas and get a fair return on invested R&D.
Gain the skills to help inventors extract patentable ideas and be trained to be a master in evaluating inventions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications before patent offices.
Deal with commercialization of IPR and make calculated bets on the future.
During this 3-year program, get support and training in law, technology and secondment in a patent law firm/patent office.

Spotify’s IP team is growing. As the largest audio streaming company in the world, we create intellectual assets (IA) such as technology, data and brands on a daily basis. These IAs need to be protected in order for us to stay ahead of competition. As an IP Counsel, you will provide this help to the business, primarily to R&D.


What you will do:
Developing and implementing an integrated and sustainable IA management program at Spotify, including:
Running training and IA review workshops with R&D teams to proactively identify and secure appropriate control positions for valuable IAs
Conducting IA reviews for acquisition targets to facilitate the transfer of value and minimize leakage
Collaborating with Patent Team to facilitate disclosure and protection of inventions by R&D
Collaborating with R&D, Marketing and IP Legal to facilitate development and protection of distinctive brands (& overseeing outside trademark counsel engagements)
Developing and implementing trade secret management procedure for non-patentable inventions and other valuable IAs
Setting up processes for and working with R&D teams to secure IP rights in collaboration projects
Supporting development and implementation of Spotify’s IP strategy
Supporting IP related dispute/litigation and commercial matters

Who you are:
You have a law or engineering degree and at least 4 years of experience working in a law firm and/or in-house legal department or in the industry.
You have specialized in and have deep knowledge of Intellectual Property Management, and how this impacts companies.
You have a good understanding of the different types of IP and how they relate to different IAs.
A passion for IA/IP and you can explain how they relate to our development.
Experience in partnering with global stakeholders.
A problem solver, and can stay calm when problems come your way.
A builder; you can work collaboratively (especially with engineers) on finding practical, implementable tools and operational solutions.
Self-motivated and can identify and attack work to be done without being instructed.

RenFuel är ett svenskt innovationsföretag inom bioenergi med dedikerade forskare, medarbetare och ägare som med ett gediget kunnande om skogsindustri och grön kemi drivs av tanken att skapa förnybara drivmedel och material med hållbara metoder.

RenFuels affärside är att förädla lignininnehållande strömmar från massaindustrin till en bioolja som kan raffineras till förnybara bränslen eller användas i andra applikationer. Företaget bildades 2012 från upptäckter gjorda vid Uppsala universitet och har i dagsläget ett marknadsvärde på över 500 miljoner kronor. För två år sedan startade RenFuel ett uppskalningsprojekt där de arbetar för att ta fram ligninbaserade produkten Lignol i större skala. Detta är ett viktigt steg i utvecklingen av en kommande fullskalig kommersiell anläggning för framställning av deras produkter.

I dagsläget har företaget tre anställda vid pilotanläggningen i Bäckhammar för produktion av Lignol i pilot-skala. Vidare är de sex anställda vid forskningslabbet i Uppsala och tre personer i Stockholm.

RenFuels affärsidé ligger i framkant sett till innovation och nytänkande och företaget behöver växa internt och söker därmed en patentchef till Stockholmskontoret. RenFuels olika patent är basen för företagets marknadsvärdering och RenFuel arbetar kontinuerligt med att bygga nya patentfamiljer som skyddar varandra. Utifrån detta synsätt vill RenFuel erbjuda kommande samarbetspartners möjlighet att nyttja de olika patentskyddade produkterna i form av licenser.

Arbetsuppgifter:

Med anledning av att företag vill skydda sina olika intressen sett till deras olika patentfamiljer söker de nu en patentchef som kan ansvara för patentfamiljerna där det ingår att: utveckla en patentstrategi för olika patentfamiljer och patent, bevaka och utreda Freedom To Operate både offensivt och defensivt, svara och även skriva erinringar och invändningar och administrera patenten vid exempelvis nationell fas. Detta innebär att du sätter dig in i varje specifikt ärende och därmed ser vi att du besitter en god förståelse för den typ av kemi som kärnverksamheten syftar till. I dagsläget har RenFuel ett tjugotal patentet, rollen kan därför komma att innebära att du som patentchef ansöker om nya patent.

Du kommer att tillhöra organisationens ledningsgrupp och på så sätt kommer du axla en strategisk roll inom bolaget. RenFuel planerar att med tiden växa i form av fler bolag och därför ser vi att du delar ledningens vision om att grön kemi är lösningen för att erbjuda en global fordonsflotta med förnybara drivmedel.

Profil:

• Relevant akademisk utbildning, gärna civilingenjör med naturvetenskaplig bakgrund

• Goda kunskaper i tal och skrift på svenska och engelska

• Erfarenhet av att skriva sekretessavtal

I och med att rollen innebär ett brett ansvarsområde ser vi att du med din gedigna erfarenhet besitter en vana av att arbeta självständigt med liknande arbetsuppgifter. Som patentchef är det viktigt att du känner ett stort ansvarstagande för ditt arbete samtidigt som du är noggrann med allt du tar dig an.
