It means we’re constantly changing the game. Always trying out new things. And we encourage our people to do the same. To grow. To develop. Because we don’t believe roles have to stay fixed. Instead we inspire our people to take an irregular career path. As a company of 350 dynamic start-ups, our whole business is built for it. So once you’re in, there’s no telling what will happen next.

Klarna's Finance Engineering team is aiming at making life easier for Klarna's finance and accounting user community. We do this by improving user experience, maximising data reliability and decreasing lead times. Our intention is to create and maintain an integrated system landscape built around SAP technology. We already use SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), SAP Accounting for Financial Instruments (AFI) and we are currently in the process of implementing SAP ERP on an S/4 Hana database and with a Fiori user interface. We are a small team of experts within different areas of finance applications (used for reporting, planning, financial accounting, controlling, consolidation etc.). We try to follow an agile project methodology and to keep short release cycles. We work closely together with the business users and with product managers, to understand the business needs and assist them in getting the right tools for performing their daily work.

We believe that you:
Would like to join our team as a functional resource in the SAP Financials areas.
Have at least five years of previous experience as a functional consultant/resource within the SAP ERP Financials area (FICO modules). Previous experience of working in an S4 Hana and Fiori context is an advantage.
Would like to work with end user support and with training and development, testing and documentation of new solutions and functionalities.
Have the knowledge and ability to suggest improvements in the solution and to assist our solution architects in creating and following the long-term strategy for the SAP application environment.
Can work closely together with other team members but also with the finance user community, supporting them in their daily work and helping them with specifying requirements and finding solutions that suit their needs.
Are good at both written and oral communication and that you are fluent in English.
Are not hesitant to learn new things. As we are a small team, it is of great advantage if we can work across functions and applications.

Who you are

We are looking for people who are inspired and committed to creating a high performing organisation and the optimal conditions for people to grow! Perhaps you are an organisational development professional already, or a generalist with an exceptional ability to learn new skills. If so, this could be the right environment for you. We are actively looking for people across our global presence, but primarily for our offices in Stockholm and Berlin. To be a good fit for Org Development at Klarna, you’ve probably found yourself thinking about the human side of things - how people react to change or which CRM system will cause the least frustration among end users. You’re likely wondering what it is that truly drives engagement and productivity at work, or how to design recruitment processes that cater to diversity and inclusion. You have likely thought long and hard about the optimal conditions for team performance and spent an unreasonable amount of time thinking about the perfect way to structure an organisation that optimises for both speed AND quality.

You see problems as opportunities and take the initiative to make changes and improvements. You are passionate about your job and enjoy a fast paced international working environment. You will play an important role in taking Klarna to the next level - thus, you should desire to go above and beyond to deliver and grow as an individual. Using our expertise about people, organisational behaviour and motivation, we analyse how people, teams, or whole parts of the organisation can be optimised to achieve results. We have a deep understanding of how the organisation operates and continually identify new challenges and design tools and solutions to meet them. We link the people with the numbers in order to drive performance and support a world-leading business to further success.

Here at Klarna, you aren’t recruited for a specific role, but rather for your competence, skill set and potential. That means you might work independently, in a team or you can be called upon from time to time for different assignments around Klarna. What we promise you is a fast pace, challenging problems, and collaboration with many brilliant colleagues. Be ready for change, be ready to learn and be ready to challenge an organisation to excel.

As your career progresses, you’ll find yourself developing expertise in these areas:

You should have:

A degree from a university. We don’t require any specific subject but Business, Science or Technology is a plus
Applicable work experience
Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English.

Who we are - Developer Services

Our goal is to enable Klarna’s engineers to build features at scale with the security and reliability that you should expect from a modern bank. We understand that the best way to do this is to empower Klarna’s engineers by providing great tooling and services to support best practices with a minimal amount of effort. We believe that the best solutions involve not just automation or configuration as code but also a deep understanding of how a developer might want things to work.

In practical terms this means paying attention to details that make the developer’s experience better and constantly evaluating whether we’ve found the right balance between making a developer’s job easier and enabling them to own their solutions. We are looking for passionate engineering managers to join us.

Impact you can have on our teams:

Creating libraries and tooling to enable seamless integration of services we use - AWS, Datadog, Sentry, Jenkins, etc.
Providing an easy to use and secure platform for container orchestration built on ECS
Identifying and building solutions that raise the level of quality across an organisation of 1,000+ engineers - from well-supported build pipelines to best-in-class observability. Ultimately, success here will drive better experiences for our over 10M consumers, 100,000 merchants operating in 14 countries.
Automating processes within cloud operations, security configuration, account management, cost optimisations, etc.

You may have the following experiences:
Experience with general software development with a passion for automation.
Use of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. The tool is less important - experiences and a mindset to try/execute CI/CD pipelines at scale is key.
Hands-on experience with containers and related technologies.
Experience with cloud providers, preferably AWS.
Experience with infrastructure as code tooling and a matching mindset.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes women, men, mothers, fathers, the self-taught, the college-educated, and people from all over the world. We’re a team of technically curious problem solvers. Ever wondered why banking is so customer unfriendly? The UX is a nightmare, modern features with quick logins and integrations seem non-existent. Feature rollouts take months and that’s just not smoooth.

At Klarna we aim to fix that. We want to create a banking offer that is both a pleasure to use as a consumer and one that you as a developer can use for your Fintech startup. Starting a new bank? Use our platform. Want to launch your own credit card? Use our platform. We do all the heavy lifting for you, providing a secure and compliant set of APIs which allow developers to focus on adding value through building their own financial products and services

By being based on a modern architecture in the cloud, utilizing tools such as Erlang, Scala, Clojure and Haskell, combined with a serverless architecture -- we will deliver on that expectation.

We're expanding several of our financial platform engineering teams; We're always adding functionality into our payment processing systems and products and we're in the process of building a modern banking platform.

What you’ll get to do

- Own your services end to end. Decide how best to build, test, deploy and monitor.
- Work with large scale, highly available and resilient modern financial systems.
- Be an integral part of a team, in addition to its culture and ways of working. Common practices include agile methodologies, pair and mob programming.
- Work with automated deployment enabling code release multiple times a day.
- Succeed, fail, and learn together with other talented people. We believe in an environment that provides an opportunity for growth and see education as an outcome of failure that gets us closer to the next breakthrough.
- Work with modern tools and languages that excite you.

You'll get the chance to work with

Functional programming languages including Erlang, Scala (typelevel stack), Clojure and JVM tooling.*
We are also utilising:
Mnesia, and a range of OTP tools.
Kafka, Serverless, Postgre, DynamoDB, LevelDB.
Prometheus, Splunk, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes.

* Previous functional programming experience isn’t essential, but you should be open to learning and working with any of these languages as the choices available may change over time.

We also have generous parental leave (for men and women).

Relocation - We can offer full relocation support to Stockholm for senior candidates. Remote work is not something we can accomodate.

We know diverse teams are strong teams, so we welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our teams include women, men, mothers, fathers, the self-taught, the college-educated, and people from all over the world.

We also believe in making contributions back to the open source community. You can find some of our work at https://github.com/klarna.

Klarna’s mission is to free people from all the meaningless time spent managing money and purchases, so they can do more of what they love. Every day at Klarna we help consumers, merchants, and partners to explore just how smoooth the modern purchase experience can be. Our position at the crossroads of payments, consumer financing, ecommerce and banking means we are uniquely positioned to do this. There is no label for what we do.

Klarna was born in Stockholm in 2005 and today has 2500 employees working across Europe and the US. We currently serve 60 million consumers, work together with 130,000 merchants and process more than a million payment transactions a day. We're growing at 40% every year and our investors include Visa, Atomico, Sequoia Capital, Permira and Bestseller group/ Anders Holch Povlsen. We have strong partnerships with some of the world’s leading brands, such as ASOS, IKEA, Adidas, Zara, Lufthansa and Spotify.

Our team

We are a multi-national team of database reliability engineers based in Stockholm.
We are responsible for one of the most important databases in Klarna. We make sure it’s up and running. Classical DBA work.
On the other side, we provide our knowledge to the organisation to help Klarna achieve its ambitious goals. We support migrations of databases to AWS, we help optimising queries and solve general database-related problems.

What you will do

“In other words, an effective DBRE functions by empowering others and guiding them, not functioning as a gatekeeper.”
"Database Reliability Engineering" by Laine Campbell and Charity Majors, published by O'Reilly 2017

You will do classical database administration. You will be responsible for Postgre servers hosted on AWS EC2 instances, access management, replication, backup & recovery, the monitoring and in general the availability of these databases.
You will also be responsible for the underlying AWS infrastructure and the handling of security vulnerabilities. And you will support the many Klarna teams using the database to help them optimize their queries.
But you will do more than the classical DBA work.
Klarna’s development and product teams run hundreds of RDS instances on AWS. Many hours have been and will be spent on the setup and maintenance of these databases.
You will support the teams so they can focus on developing new features instead of taking care of their databases. These databases have different requirements with respect to availability & performance. You will support the teams to meet these requirements.

So how will you do all that?

In general, you will try to automate all processes to set up, monitor and maintain databases on AWS.
You will support the teams to select the right database technology for their specific use cases.
You will help them to design their database schemas and queries before the launch of their application.
You will implement tools (in Ansible and CloudFormation) the teams can then use to set up their databases in no time, including the right security groups, tags, snapshots and backups, etc.
You will implement tools teams can use to quickly set up the monitoring of the availability of their databases.
You will implement dashboard templates that display the most common database metrics and make those templates available for the teams so they can start using them right after the setup of their databases.
You will provide tools to help them identify issues with their queries (AWS CloudWatch, Lambda functions, RDS logs, DataDog, Splunk dashboards, whatever is available).
You will help them to solve these issues and to optimize their schemas and queries after the application launch.

You should have
Professional experience with Postgre database administration (optimisation, tuning, configuration, monitoring)
Professional experience with AWS in general and AWS database technologies (i.e. RDS, Aurora) in particular
Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex systems
Good knowledge of query performance optimisation
The will to automate everything automatable
A healthy appetite to learn new things

You might also have
University degree in Computer Science, or similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Good knowledge of Ansible, Python is a plus
Good knowledge of database scaling techniques for high-performance databases
Good knowledge of the Linux operating system
Good knowledge of other databases like My or MS Visa mindre

Description

Klarna is the largest fintech company in Europe to become a bank and we aim high. We don’t focus on where we’ve come from. What matters to us is where we are going. Klarna’s goal is to improve the online buying experience for our consumers and merchants all over the world.

Security lies at the core of all the things we do at Klarna and we're looking for people passionate about taking our security operations in a highly dynamic environment to the next level. In the Vulnerability Management team, we're assessing the security of everything that is built and run in Klarna’s IT environments through both manual and automated assessments. We see an ever growing need to ensure the solutions we build are secure, and are therefore now looking for security engineers with solid experience of identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in today’s common technologies as well as the ability and passion to quickly take on tomorrow’s technologies.

As a security engineer within the Vulnerability Management team, you’ll be sharing your time between performing security assessments of the solutions Klarna teams are creating and building tools and mechanisms for giving us a continuous real-time view of identified security issues. We constantly challenge our ways of working to make sure we're keeping up with Klarna's fast-paced development progress. In order to achieve that, we're focusing heavily on automating everything that can be automated so we can spend more time on security assessments and coming up with solutions to new problems.

If you feel at home when breaking solutions using the latest technologies in cloud environments and are passionate about creating solutions that scale security assessment processes through automation, this is a position for you. You will get a lot of opportunities to shape how we best secure our environments on all levels of our tech stack today and in the future - networks, systems, containers, orchestration layers, CI/CD pipelines, and more. We provide a mentoring and competence track specific for you to get you up to speed.

Get in touch with us if you would enjoy...
Assessing the security of our tech stack through whatever means are best suited
Building tools to handle everything that’s better suited for automating than doing manually
Working with engineering teams to drive security improvements
Taking an active role in architectural decisions
Having fun and sharing your knowledge and expertise while doing so

It would be great if you have some of the following...
Experience within penetration testing or other forms of technical security assessments
Experience with building your own tools, preferably in Python or NodeJS
Experience and understanding of modern tech stacks and dynamic environments - containers, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments
A pragmatic approach to solving security issues in ways that achieve the best effect within the organization

This is an exciting time to join our Vulnerability Management team as we are growing and exploring new areas within the security domain. We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. We are a team of technically curious problem solvers. Come and join us.

We currently serve 60 million consumers, work together with 130,000 merchants and process more than a million payment transactions a day. What you will do

Engineering is rapidly growing and we are looking for new talent to join our Information Security team. Our team services the entire Klarna group working out of Stockholm (HQ) and Linden. You will either work in Berlin or in Stockholm.

With a banking license and operating in the financial industry in several regions, Klarna is naturally highly regulated. Regardless, we strive to build the smoothest experience. Keeping our customers information safe and ensuring their privacy is essential to Klarna, hence our highest commitment to Information Security.

The InfoSec team implements and follows up on our internal control framework and mapping to multiple regulatory spaces BUT we try to work in a smart way. We are trying to do away with most of the drudgery around Information Security control governance.
A company in the cloud with a lot of developers, we try to build in security as code, allowing us to enforce security by default.

You will be creating our Standards for security, spreading awareness & measuring the effectiveness, and providing assurance. For new solutions, services, and partners, you will assess the risks and do the necessary due diligence and review to ensure it is all up to par.

Our InfoSec team finds new ways to drive awareness. Placing ourselves in our colleagues shoes and mindset, we try to understand how we can best influence them. That’s why we have a communication specialist amongst us and utilize many freelance artists to make our messages stick.

Who you are

You have worked with Information Security for at least 5 years. You have experience dealing with engineers, product developers, management and users.
You have been an auditor or worked frequently with auditors.
You both know the individual requirements in the frameworks and understand the underlying principles for their reason to exist and the risks they try to solve.

In your heart, you know there is a better way of doing things. Challenge the old dogmas of slow tedious information security work with miles of documentation and do away with the tick-the-box philosophy of security.

Still, you are grounded and understand that security has to be explained, and that others need assurance that information is secure the same as we require the assurance from our partners and service providers.

You love to try a new approach, think big, but are equally heavy into details. Setting out small and quickly try out your idea because you really want to see the results now not in years that can grow into something big.

If you feel the description fits you, come help us redefine InfoSec. Visa mindre
