Requirements
The position as Junior Research Fellow requires a master’s degree (300 ECTS) or equivalent and preferably a few years of work experience in a relevant field. Conduct spatial and network analyses using GIS tools, primarily ArcGIS Pro, to derive insights from geographic data.
Create clear and impactful maps, graphs, and visualizations; document methodologies; and present findings through reports and presentations.
Engage in tendering and dissemination activities.

Requirements
The position as Senior GIS Analyst/Cartographer require a doctoral degree or a master’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience in research and practice (master’s degree), or two years of relevant experience after acquiring a PhD. The degree should be in one of the following fields: a degree in geoscience, urban and regional planning, human geography, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines.
Experience in statistical and spatial data collection, analysis and visualization with GIS software, (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, QGIS or other), web-mapping solutions (e.g. ArcGIS Online or similar).
Experience working with micro data would be a plus.
Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, R or other) is desirable.
Highly motivated and capable of working independently, while also thriving in a collaborative research setting.

Requirements
The position as Senior Research Fellow requires a doctoral degree. The degree should be in a discipline aligned with at least one of the research fields above (e.g. planning, urban studies, geography, economics, political science, sociology, or similar).

· Senior Research Fellows are expected to have at least two years of relevant experience in research or practice post-graduation.
Candidates should demonstrate an interest in developing new research perspectives, building research networks with external partners, and securing funding.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to take a creative approach to complex problems.
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as the skills to work effectively in a cooperative research environment.

Main Work Tasks
· Independently lead and participate in research projects, including supervising junior staff and disseminating Nordregio research.

Requirements
You will be involved in one main project and contribute your expertise to other related projects at Nordregio. The main project you will be engaged in, ILLUQ, is an EU-funded initiative focusing on connecting links between permafrost, pollution, and health in the Arctic. Specifically, you will contribute to identifying ecosystem services in several study sites in the Arctic. We are looking for a researcher with the following profile:
PhD in geography (either human or physical), environmental social science, or a related discipline.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred: ecosystem services, land use, climate change impacts on ecosystems and populations, One Health, or pollution.
Experience with quantitative (e.g., advanced spatial analysis, statistics, data processing) research methods.
Experience with qualitative (e.g., case studies, survey development and analysis, action research) research methods is valued.
Interest in being involved in multidisciplinary projects.
Ability to work independently and take a creative approach to solving complex problems.
Ability to work in teams and contribute to developing new projects.
Ability to disseminate complex results to a wide audience, including colleagues and stakeholders.
Experience working with rural areas or the Arctic is advantageous.
Fluent in English. Scandinavian language is not necessary but an advantage.

Nordregio is currently seeking to expand its communications team with a full-time event coordinator to plan and execute external and internal events that promote our research and organisation. About the GIS team
The GIS team stands for some of the key outputs of Nordregio. Founded by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1997, Nordregio’s mission is to provide Nordic policymakers and practitioners with new knowledge, tools, and cross-Nordic learning to support the development of effective socio-economic and environmentally sustainable regional development policies.

The Research Director is responsible for setting the overall strategic research agenda of the organization, including research, policy, and funding priorities. The position requires someone with experience of strategy development and implementation who understands the current regional development and planning research/policy/funding landscape in the Nordics and EU. As Deputy Director and Research Director, you are also expected to focus on leading and supporting researchers in their projects.

Responsibilities and main tasks
· Lead the work in developing Nordregio’s research strategy and follow-up on its implementation
· Manage Nordregio’s project portfolio including capacity planning
· Oversee overall research processes and quality assurance
· Actively contribute to secure a competitive research portfolio through the definition of a comprehensive bidding and tendering strategy
· Collaborate with and support Nordregio researchers in grant writing and tendering activities.
· Support the Director in activities related to external networking, co-operation, and representation
· Together with the staff managers at Nordregio, supervise, support and coach Nordregio’s research staff, including direct responsibility for the professional development and salary negotiations with 7-10 researchers
· Follow the current developments in topical research fields at the Nordic, EU and global level and offer insight on research impact, ethics, and other relevant issues.

Background and experience
· PhD in a relevant discipline with experience in applied research project development and management.
· A minimum of 10 years of research experience in human geography, regional or urban planning, economics, political science, sociology, or related fields.
· In-depth knowledge of at least one Nordic country and a European perspective.
· Extensive network of relevant research and policy contacts.
· Proven track record in grant writing and tendering activities.
· Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
· Citizenship in a Nordic country and fluency in a Scandinavian language, with full proficiency in English.

Qualifications
· Minimum of a master's degree in social sciences with quantitative competences, in statistics, or a related field.
· Strong statistical skills and experience with statistical analyses, methodologies, data management and presentation tools.
· Demonstrated ability to convey complex statistical results and insights in an understandable and engaging manner.
· Knowledge about relevant laws and regulations that govern the publication and use of official statistics in your country or region in the Nordics. This may include laws on access to information, data protection, and statistical production.
· Experience in project management and Nordic cooperation is an advantage.
· Able to handle complex projects with multiple variables and have the ability to maintain an overview of the project's progress and goals.
· Being a proactive person who takes the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement, both in statistical processes and in cooperation with Nordic partners.
· Having excellent communication skills in one of the Nordic languages and English.
· Ability to work independently and in teams.

About the GIS team
The Data and GIS team consists of geographers, statisticians, and data-driven individuals who enjoy working with other social scientists and helping them to analyze and represent data in their outputs. An example of this is Nordregio’s flagship publication, State of the Nordic Region, where the GIS team plays a cornerstone role by analysing and visualising the data upon which the report stands.
The work of the data and GIS team consists of collection, harmonisation, interpretation, and analysis of data on a fine geographical scale; visualisation of the information in map and graph formats; drawing of conclusions and dissemination of the results verbally and in the written form. The work also includes project management and traditional GIS analysis. Occasional domestic and international work trips are included in the job obligations.
About the role
For this position you should have strong analytical and critical thinking. You are going to primarily work with collecting, processing, analyzing and visualizing geo-data. Your tasks include diverse operations using ArcGIS Pro and Desktop, QGIS, Excel with possibility to use other/ new programs.
You will be involved in several projects in parallel, in which you are going to work on your own, as well as in close cooperation with colleagues, stakeholders and partner organisations.
Background and experience
For this position, you must have a degree or equivalent working experience in GIS, data analysis, geography, or other relevant discipline. A couple of years of professional experience is a benefit, but not a requirement.
Professional fluency in English is essential. Additionally, you should be willing to acquire a working knowledge in one of the Nordic languages within a relatively short period of time (if you do not already speak one).
We are looking for a person with an inter-discipline interest, analytical and technical skills. Also important is flexibility and a genuine desire to learn new topics and tools.
A drive to develop professionally and learn new skills and programs is an essential requirement for the position.

For a Senior Research Fellow, practical experience in tendering and managing EU or national level research projects is needed.
Experience working with issues related to marine governance (e.g. stakeholder engagement/cross-sector integration) and the development of a sustainable blue economy in key marine sectors, such as, energy, transportation, recreation and environment.
Strong experience and skills in collaborative and qualitative research methods (e.g. co-creation of knowledge, participatory observation, interviews and surveys).
Experience and skills in quantitative data collection and analysis (not the least social and economic aspects and related baseline mappings and impact assessments).
Ability to explain and disseminate complex results to a wide audience, including policymakers, academics, and other stakeholders in marine and coastal planning and management.
Proficient academic writing, reading and presentation skills in English and fluency in at least one Nordic language.
Relevant international and national professional research and planning networks and collaboration experience in the marine field.

Nordregio is searching for a Senior Research Advisor
Nordregio is currently seeking to expand its capacity by adding a new Senior Research Advisor with expertise and interest in the societal effects of digital transition. We are interested in someone who has strong analytical skills and a critical mindset with experience from research and/or consultancy and activities related to digitalization with focus on societal issues. You also have knowledge about digital development policies and formation in the Nordic countries.
Requirements
· A master’s degree (300 ECTS) or equivalent in addition to at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
· A professional background in social sciences: (regional/rural/urban policies and/or planning, political science, economics, human geography, sociology, (landscape) architecture or equivalent).
· Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the implications of the digital transition for Nordic societies, and in a range of geographical contexts including, for example:
The role of technology in driving societal change, particularly with respect to potential for spatial impacts (e.g., labour market automation; increased opportunities for remote work).
Digital inclusion / exclusion at both macro level (e.g., urban / rural digital divide) and micro level (e.g., individual attributes that inhibit / enable full digital participation).
The interaction between the green and digital transitions in policy and practice at the national, Nordic, and EU levels.

· Extensive project management experience, including:
Documented experience leading teams to collect data, perform analysis, produce texts, and disseminate results to diverse audiences.
Highly developed ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and partner organizations.
Experienced in (public) fund raising and project development.

· Experience with quantitative (e.g., advanced spatial analysis, statistics, data processing) and/or qualitative (e.g., case studies, survey development and analysis, action research) research methods.

Internally we appreciate analytical and creative skills, complemented by abilities to both cooperate and work on your own. For this position, you have at least 6 years of relevant work experience and already an extensive network of research and policy contacts. As Team leader, you hold a PhD or MSc in GIS, economic or quantitative geography, or an equivalent discipline.
Fluency in English is essential, and you should be willing to acquire a working knowledge in a Scandinavian language within a relatively short period of time, if you do not already speak one.

Qualifications
We are now looking for a Junior Cartographer GIS Analyst with:
· Expertise in GIS, geo-data management and spatial analysis, statistics and quantitative analysis.
· Experience in creating new cartographical materials (e.g., shapefile of administrative and functional units, thematic maps).
· Knowledge in collecting data from Nordic and European statistical institutes (e.g., socio-economic indicators at municipal and regional levels) as well as from other geo-data sources. Knowledge of the Baltic and Arctic geographies is a plus.
· A drive for working in teams and supporting colleagues and project partners with statistics and maps in an international applied research environment.
For this position, you have recently finalised your MSc degree in GIS, geoinformatics, geography, or an equivalent discipline. A couple of years of professional experience is required. Professional fluency in Swedish and Russian is essential since you will be working mainly with our projects with Russian partners.
About your role
As a Junior Cartographer GIS Analyst, your analytical skills are solicitated on a daily basis. You are going to primarily work with collecting, processing, analysing and visualising geo-data. Your tasks include diverse operations using ArcGIS Pro and Desktop, QGIS, and Excel. You also contribute to the management and the development of our database which covers all municipalities and all regions in the Nordic Region, and beyond.
Your critical thinking is also key to your work at Nordregio. You are going, for instance, to question the quality of various datasets, and deduce policy-relevant facts from your data analysis.
Finally, you are involved in several projects in parallel, in which you are going to work on your own as well as in close cooperation with colleagues, stakeholders and partner organisations.
