The Custom Programs Department is seeking a First-Year Program Assistant in DIS’ Stockholm office. In this role, you are responsible for coordinating and overseeing the student-life related components of the University of Texas at Austin’s First Year Program, Take the World by the Horns: First Semester Abroad.
In this role, you will live and work closely with a cohort of 20-25 students, who are spending their first semester of university with DIS Study Abroad in Stockholm. The aim of the position is to create a safe and structured, yet fun and culturally relevant environment for students, and through this opportunity, gain professional international work experience in the field of international higher education and student life.
The ideal candidate has a keen interest in facilitating cross-cultural understanding and working closely with first-year undergraduate students. In addition, this position requires that you thrive in social and team-based settings, are highly organized and able to maintain a variety of ongoing projects simultaneously, and are an excellent communicator.
This is a full-time paid internship over 5 months (August 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026), and reports to the Director of Custom Programs in Copenhagen.

Responsibilities
Bridge the different cultures of students, faculty, and staff by applying experience as a former DIS student
Provide high-level service to students, ensuring a fulfilling academic and intercultural experience abroad
Regularly meet with students to ensure they stay on track with relevant DIS and University of Texas at Austin deadlines, pertaining both to the fall and upcoming spring semester
Arrange, coordinate, and facilitate extracurricular events for students in coordination with DIS and University of Texas at Austin

We are expanding our Faculty Learning Lab, and we are excited to welcome a new Teaching and Learning Specialist to our team. This role is based in Stockholm and will focus on supporting faculty development, particularly for our Stockholm-based faculty.
The Learning Lab is part of the Academic department at DIS, an international study abroad organization with offices in Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Minnesota. We take pride in our distinct pedagogical approach, where the city serves as a classroom through field studies and academically integrated study tours. In the classroom, our faculty create inclusive learning communities that prioritize active student engagement and learning. Many of our faculty members “teach what they do,” integrating their professional experiences as lawyers, doctors, poets, economists, and more into their teaching. They share a common passion for their subjects, and we aim to elevate their work by expanding the services of the Faculty Learning Lab, in particular by offering more support to our faculty in Stockholm.
As a Teaching and Learning Specialist, you will collaborate with our 40 full-time and 260 part-time faculty across Copenhagen and Stockholm, providing guidance and support to enhance their teaching practices to align with our DIS values.

Key responsibilities
Collaborate with faculty
Partner with DIS faculty in Stockholm (and occasionally in Copenhagen) to spar about topics like classroom challenges and opportunities as well as best teaching practices.
Design and deliver faculty development initiatives
Develop and implement faculty development workshops to promote student success, focusing on topics such as experiential learning, student wellbeing, inclusive pedagogy, and universal design for learning.
Co-lead faculty onboarding programs
In close collaboration with your Learning Lab colleagues in Copenhagen, oversee and refine the New Faculty Intro Course to ensure an effective and engaging onboarding experience for first-semester faculty at DIS.
Create inspirational teaching resources
Collaborate with faculty to produce high-quality tools and materials that support continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.

DIS provides semester, academic year, and summer programs taught in English, and offers high-impact learning experiences for upper-division undergraduate students from distinguished North American colleges and universities. DIS- Study Abroad in Scandinavia is currently hiring an external lecturer with strong teaching skills to teach a new core course on the Cognitive Neuroscience of Addiction.
The course will be introduced during the Fall 2023 semester, from approximately mid-August through early December. The course will meet at DIS Stockholm for 80 minutes twice per week, and there will be academic field studies scheduled on two Wednesdays during the course of the semester. The course will include two study tour weeks, one within Sweden and one to London, England, which will be planned and led by the course instructor.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Relevant educational background, PhD degree in neuroscience or psychology an advantage
Work experience from your field of expertise
Experience with teaching is an advantage but not a requirement

Flexibility, creativity, and openness to pedagogical support from DIS
Ability to translate DIS’ interactive, hands-on teaching philosophy into practice

As long as the main objectives of the course are retained, topics can be adjusted according to the instructor’s background and expertise

In your Role as Office Assistant, you will be affiliated with the Housing and Student Affairs Department (HOSA) at DIS Stockholm. Most of your tasks (70%) will lie within HOSA, with the remaining 30% supporting Academics at DIS Stockholm. Housing and Student Affairs office management
-Assist in developing the social and cultural program jointly with the Student Affairs Coordinator
