The British Embassy in Sweden is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking to recruit three Political Officers for the Political section, each role to cover one of the following areas:

Each role is designed to:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
. Provide analysis and insights on Swedish political, development, economic or trade issues, through network of contacts, attendance at seminars, desk based research etc.
. Gather information, lobby and influence in line with UK government objectives on specific political, economic or trade policy areas. Devise and deliver visits from senior officials and ministers in support of UK objectives.
. Identify and build on opportunity for enhanced interaction between UK and Swedish officials and NGO, business, research or innovation communities. Devise and deliver projects, seminars and events to support this.
. Work closely with colleagues in the Embassy's Defence, Trade and Investment, Science and Innovation and Communications teams to maximise engagement between UK and Swedish counterparts.

The British Embassy is looking to recruit two Senior Trade Advisers to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Stockholm.

The Department for International Trade is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT Europe works to help UK-based businesses export to the EU and to encourage the best European businesses to invest in the UK. This is an exciting time to join the team, as you will have the opportunity to shape the UK's international trade agenda and foster UK growth.

As a result of re-structuring we are looking to recruit two new Senior Trade Adviser (STA) to deliver trade work. Both positions are delivery roles and will provide strategic direction for trade development for UK companies in specific sectors. One of the roles will include line management of Trade Advisers and work closely with the Trade Manager to create project teams to deliver time based projects (workload for this position will be adjusted accordingly).

What you will do:
Identify Swedish high value opportunities through research and engaging with local contacts, stakeholders, organisations etc. Develop a range of activities to match the needs of the market with UK expertise. Assist companies to win business in market, work with trade policy and the successful implementation of the Trade Continuity Agreement.

Facilitate trade and support the trade team to deliver tangible results. Monitor market access barriers and support trade policy for Sweden across a range of sectors that can include: Life Science, Infrastructure, Retail, Tech, Clean Growth, Food & Drink, Defence and Security.

Understand the UK offer by building networks with HQ and regional colleagues. Produce business cases to support sector work, author briefs for VIP visits and other governmental communication, delivery of DIT Country Plan and contribute to the wider Embassy activity.

Full key account management, including some routine administration and follow up throughout the process. Horizon scan for new opportunities outside of the main sectors.

Essential skills and qualifications:

. Communication: Develop and contribute to DIT Sweden's social media engagement plan. Work with the DIT regional team to ensure that messages are consistent, well developed and amplified across all platforms. Foster and leverage relationships with relevant agencies and stakeholders to maximise the effort in promoting Sweden as a place to do business. Conversely raise the profile of the UK as a strong business partner. Actively contribute and lead on aspects of marketing campaigns throughout the year to showcase the strengths of the UK.

. Administration: Work as one team to deliver on the priorities as set out in the Country Business Plan. Ensure that the trade team follows procedures in line with the civil service code. .Identify and capitalise on opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Sweden, delivering projects and events and supporting exchange of best practice in these areas;
.Analyse, report and lobby on a number of policy areas in support of bilateral objectives.

What will be your key responsibilities?
.Collaborate with colleagues, including the Trade and Investment team (DIT) and the Science and Innovation Officers to deliver the Embassy's prosperity objectives. Areas focussed on to date include emerging tech, digital health care, 5G and green finance;
.Identify issues where exchange between the UK and Sweden would be fruitful and deliver activity in support of that through planning and running workshops, events, visits, training, etc. Work with the Communications Team to ensure communications opportunities are maximised;
.Develop a thorough understanding of a number of policy areas (these will be open to discussion, depending on the experiences of the successful candidate). Provide relevant, timely analysis of Swedish policies and practises and recommendations for engagement between UK and Sweden;
.Develop and foster effective relationships with Swedish Government departments, Trade associations, NGOs, think tanks, etc. to promote UK government objectives and to support quality of reporting to UK;
.Develop and foster effective relationships with UK Government departments, British Embassies in the Nordic Baltic region and in wider Europe to support delivery of relevant, impactful prosperity activity and policy exchange;
.Co-ordinate and deliver visits to Sweden by UK ministers and senior officials;
.Provide analysis and reporting to inform the negotiations on the UK's future economic partnership with the EU in specific areas;
.Provide cover and support for other members of the Political Section as need arises.

. To work with a network of colleagues in the Nordic Baltic countries on regional climate change initiatives related to COP26. This will require identification of shared opportunities, co-ordination of activity and management of resources across the network and reporting on progress to London.
. To support the communications team in developing and delivering communications on climate and COP26.
. To build a network of working level contacts in national and local governments across Sweden, in business, civil society and youth groups in support of COP26 activity.
. To support Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to COP26 and climate events in Sweden .This could include organising visit agendas and supporting events as required. The Finance Assistant reports to the Corporate Service Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day finance tasks, which include working closely with our Global Transaction Centre, and for managing payroll administration for around 50 personnel.

The ideal candidate has passion for numbers, is able to maintain accuracy in their work and apply a good depth of experience performing basic accounting functions, from AR/AP to monthly reconciliations. Additionally, shows some experience in office management supporting medium-sized teams and keen interest in helping improve existing systems and processes.

The role will:
- Deliver an efficient and professional accounts service in line with Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) financial policy and objectives;
- Provide a professional Salary & Pensions service in line with Swedish labour law, best practices and central FCO policy.

Main duties and responsibilities:
. Keep track of accounts payable and accounts receivable;
. Check HQ prepared financial returns;
. Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns;
. Create MI reports for other departments, providing support with forecast data input;
. Electronic Banking - local direct debit mandates and payroll payments;
. Monitoring and management of a small number of administration budgets including some contract management;
. Procurement -requisitioning and related housekeeping

Salaries & Pensions Administration (25%)
. Assist in managing and tracking budget calculations;
. Prepare monthly salaries using propriety payroll software;
. Prepare, pay and report Pension and Social Security payments;
. Work with and support HR Officer with new staff set-ups

Essential Skills

The role of the Senior Trade Adviser is to provide strategic direction for trade development for UK companies. This position will lead DIT Stockholm's efforts in Technology and be part of the Defence & Security team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

. Identify Swedish high value opportunities through research and engaging with local contacts, stakeholders, organisations etc. and develop a range of activities under a campaign to match the needs of the market with UK expertise.
