About JAPANESE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION IN STOCKHOLM, JSA
JAPANESE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION IN STOCKHOLM (JSA) is a non-profit organisation, which was established in 1974. It offers primary and secondary education programs for Japanese speaking students (Nihonjin Hoshu Gakko or Hoshuko). It is a parental cooperative, managed by a committee consisting of parent representatives. Its board members include representatives from the Stockholm Japanese Association (Japanska Föreningen i Stockholm) and Japanese Business Club in Stockholm.
The education programs run weekly on Saturdays at Enskilda Gynmasiet in Stockholm. As of February 2023, there are 13 teaching staff and about 175 students enrolled.
The programs are in conformity with the Japanese national curriculums and use textbooks accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. They focus primarily on Japanese language and math and offer unique Japanese cultural experience for all students.
Since 2019, JSA has extended its capacity to offer education program for preschool students aged between 5 and 6 years old. The preschool program is designed as a preparatory stage for students seeking to attend the primary education program.
JSA is currently seeking a teacher (primary/secondary education programs) and enthusiastic teaching assistants for both preschool and lower primary education programs. In addition to respective roles as a teacher and teaching assistants on Saturday education programs, these positions require candidates to attend staff meetings, as well as carrying out administrative duties at JSA office located in Södermalm.
Requirements
Fluency in Japanese, at native level (both positions)
Must have a work permit in Sweden/EU or is eligible to work in Sweden

Personal Skills
Inspirational and highly motivated to support students and teachers of the programs.
Excellent communication skills to work with teachers, students, and their parents.

JSA is currently seeking teachers (primary/secondary education programs) and enthusiastic teaching assistants for both preschool and lower primary education programs. In addition to respective roles as a teacher and teaching assistant on Saturday education programs.
Requirements
Fluency in Japanese, at native level (both positions)
Must have a work permit in Sweden/EU or is eligible to work in Sweden (both positions)



Merit
Relevant certificates and previous teaching experiences (teaching position only)



Personal Skills
Inspirational and highly motivated to support students and teachers of the programs.
Excellent communication skills to work with teachers, students, and their parents.
Ability to work with students and co-workers with different needs and cultural backgrounds.
Good understanding of the unique school environment and willingness to positively contribute to the development of education programs together with the management committee.



Working Hours
Working hours: Saturdays, 8:30 AM to 14:30 PM (Teacher)/ 8:40 AM to 14:10 PM (Teaching assistants)
Period: primarily Saturdays from mid-Oct 2022

We are accredited by Japanese Ministry of Education and we do not follow the Swedish curriculum (LgR11).
We are looking for teachers who are willing to work at least throughout a school year with us.

JAPANESE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION IN STOCKHOLM, JSA is a truly Japanese non-profit private school organized and managed by the parental management committee and supported by Japanska Föreningen i Stockholm, Japanese Businessmen’s Club (JBC) and Japanese government. JSA was established in 1974 and this year we currently have 150 students and 13 teachers.
JSA offers a high standard of Japanese education from grade 1 to grade 9 where students feel like being at Japanese school in Japan and learn Japanese and Mathematics in Japanese. The actual schooling takes place on Saturdays between 9-14. Moreover they don’t miss out experiencing traditional school events and cultures, like Undokai and Mochi Tsuki.
At JSA we are committed to provide supplementary education which means learning at home comes first and JSA comes after.
Curriculum is based on Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan but we focus not only teaching Japanese and Mathematics but also providing students with a chance to experience custom and culture of Japanese school.It is very intensive as one school week is compressed in to one day.
We are accredited by Japanese Ministry of Education and we do not follow the Swedish curriculum (LgR11).
We are looking for teachers who are willing to work at least throughout a school year with us.
Requirements
Must have a work permit in Sweden/EU, or a permit which is eligible to work in Sweden
Personal Skills
Eager to learn with students, highly motivated and enthusiastic to teach students.
Fully aware of the importance of education, the role and responsibilities as a teacher.
Ability to well prepare for classes, maintain classes confidently, follow up closely with students and parents.
Strong mindset and motivation.
Excellent communication skills to work closely with students and parents, open minded and establish a relation with students from diverse cultures.
Good understanding about the distinctiveness of the school and willing to contribute to school development with the parental management committee.

Desirable
You are not required to have but it is beneficial if you have:
Certified teaching credentials in Japan. (Elementary school or junior high school license: any subjects)
Teaching experience in Japan or international teaching experience.

Working Hours
Basic Teaching hours every Saturday from 8:30 to 14:30
School days in total 36 days (35 days / year and athletic event) and teacher’s meeting (40 hours/year)

Contract
Part-time position with yearly contract.
Starting August 15th, 2020
