Research Analyst – Emerging and Frontier Europe markets
Job description
We are looking for a research analyst to strengthen our Emerging and Frontier Europe public equities investment team. The primary responsibility of the analyst will be to provide support for senior investment managers in the Balkan region, including Turkey, Greece and Romania. The ideal candidate will have a background in one of the markets including language skills, as well as knowledge of how different businesses operate, fundamental analysis, financial modelling and equity valuation. The analyst will be based in Stockholm.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Research across designated markets and industries with focus on individual stocks
Identify and recommend investment opportunities through comprehensive stock picking as well as monitoring current holdings
Performing fundamental research of individual companies by analysing company financials, interacting with management teams and building own valuation models and peer analysis
Top-down macroeconomic analysis to understand broader market trends and their potential impact on investments
ESG analysis of companies and preparation of relevant engagement with companies to improve their sustainability profiles
Travelling across the region, represent East Capital in high level company meetings, conferences and other relevant events
Develop and maintain relationships with industry contacts to gauge local market sentiment and gather valuable insights
Supporting the team by contributing to and updating relevant internal and external presentations and reports


Qualifications / skills
University degree in Finance/Economics
Keen interest in financial markets and investments
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
Relevant experience in investment analysis, fundamental equity research on the buy/sell side
Proficiency in financial modelling and valuation techniques
Ability to analyse macroeconomic environment
Experience in relevant regional stock markets, preferably Turkey
Knowledge of ESG analysis and processes is a plus
Ability to “command” software such as Excel and Bloomberg/Refinitiv (Work Space) as opposed to an ability to simply “use” them
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong networking skills and the ability to build and maintain professional relationships
Fluency in English is a must, a language of the region is a strong advantage
CFA charter or work towards it is preferred, but not a must

We are looking for a portfolio manager to strengthen our investment team.
The ideal candidate will have a background in emerging/frontier markets and knowledge of how different businesses operate, fundamental analysis, financial modelling and equity valuation.
The person would be part of a team of portfolio managers and analysts based in Stockholm.
About The Role
The individual will assist with the management of various emerging market portfolios with a strong focus on ESG integration and active ownership:
Day-to-day portfolio management
Assisting lead portfolio manager with articulating fund approach and philosophy to external and internal audiences
Engagement with portfolio companies on material ESG issues
Ensuring integration of ESG and other processes into the portfolio management process
Assisting and training analysts regarding fundamental and ESG analysis
Preparation of intuitive and clear presentation material for internal and external audiences

Requirements
7-10 years of active equity asset management experience, in emerging markets
Strong understanding of ESG integration and particular SDG impact
Understanding of EU regulatory landscape (particularly SFDR and the EU taxonomy)
Track record of leading large engagements on material ESG matters with measurable outcomes
Relevant degree in economics, mathematics, finance or similar; MBA or CFA strongly preferred
Fluency in one or more emerging market language
Extensive experience with Excel, Bloomberg and other similar tools
Exceptionally strong interpersonal and presentation skills

We are looking for a research associate to strengthen our Eastern European team. The primary responsibility will be to provide support for senior investment managers on equities in emerging markets across South Eastern European markets with a focus on Turkey, Greece, Romania and other neighboring markets.
The ideal candidate will have a background in emerging/ frontier markets and knowledge of how different businesses operate, fundamental analysis, financial modelling and equity valuation.

About The Role
· Gathering and assessing securities data for stocks in Balkans countries, including Greece and Turkey
· Assessing company financial statements to determine company performance
· Using financial modelling techniques to construct detailed forecasts of the holdings in the portfolio
· Developing timely viewpoints on generic and specific, industry, market, economy, and country level outlooks
· Performing ad hoc research to develop investment recommendations and present them in a clear and concise manner to the Portfolio manager
· Following daily new flow and trends on a company, industry, and country level
· Preparing ESG scorecards, develop ideas on ESG engagements, and assist Portfolio manager with ESG engagements with companies
· Preparing periodical and ad hoc internal and external presentations and reports on research and fund performance
· Participating in company trips and conferences, gathering first-hand information and help enhance investment process
· Performing macro-economic forecasts and outlook for largest countries using statistical techniques

Requirements
· 3-5 years relevant experience working in financial markets relating to emerging markets
· Master’s degree in economics, mathematics, finance or similar
· Fluency in Turkish and English required, additional languages are a plus
· Extensive experience with the whole suite of Microsoft, including VBA, Bloomberg and other similar tools
· Experience using statistical computing software such as R, Stata, or similar
· Strong understanding of ESG
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
