About the job
You will be part of an agile team developing machine learning solutions to improve cancer treatment. As part of the ML Planning team, you will build deep learning models to predict radiation dose distributions used in clinics worldwide.
In radiation therapy, treatment planning involves delivering precise radiation to tumors while sparing healthy tissue—a complex optimization problem. Our models predict 3D dose directly from patient data, enabling faster, high-quality treatment plans and significantly reducing the time and expertise required.
You will
Your work will focus on training, evaluating, and deploying deep learning models for dose prediction, using clinical metrics such as DVH to ensure performance meets medical standards.
You will work with real clinical data and collaborate closely with medical experts to validate results. At the same time, you will develop and maintain production code in RayStation, where engineering quality is as important as model performance.

As Risk Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating cybersecurity and information security risks across all RaySearch products. Description of Doctoral Candidate Project DC17

Radiotherapy is a fundamental modality in oncology treatment, typically delivered over multiple fractions across several weeks. Throughout the treatment course, patients may exhibit substantial anatomical modifications (such as tumour regression or weight loss) as well as biological and functional changes within both malignant and healthy tissues. These dynamic variations can compromise the precision and therapeutic efficacy of radiation delivery, making the initial treatment plan suboptimal and necessitating adaptive strategies to maintain clinical outcomes.

Current treatment planning and adaptation strategies in radiotherapy predominantly focus on the physical dose distribution delivered to the patient. While effective to some extent, these approaches offer limited personalization and frequently neglect individual biological variability, such as tumour response dynamics and normal tissue sensitivity.

This project seeks to enhance both the efficacy and personalization of radiotherapy by integrating biological modelling with conventional dose-based planning. Specifically, it will focus on developing methodologies that leverage biological information and imaging biomarkers for optimizing the initial treatment plan and guide adaptive strategies throughout the treatment course.

The project has three main components:

1. Robust radiobiological optimization – Improving initial treatment planning by considering not only dose but also radiobiological models that predicts how tumours and healthy tissues respond to radiation, while accounting for underlying uncertainties.
2. Functional imaging integration – Using advanced imaging (e.g., PET/fMRI combined with CT or other anatomical imaging) to monitor both anatomical changes and tissue responses, enabling adaptation of the radiotherapy treatment based on both anatomical and biological indicators.
3. Biologically guided adaptive planning – Combining these approaches into a research prototype of a commercial treatment planning system for individualised initial treatment planning and adaptive treatments, accounting for underlying geometrical and biological uncertainties.

By incorporating biological and imaging data, this project aims to enable more personalized and adaptive radiotherapy treatments, moving beyond traditional dose-based methods.

About RayCare

RayCare is a client-server application that runs on premises at many clinics all over the world. RayCare takes care of and helps clinical staff to coordinate their work at the clinic. For example, workflow management, patient chart details and treatment management. RayCare is an innovative oncology information system (OIS) designed to support the complex challenges of modern oncology clinics. It is developed to streamline workflows in cancer clinics to facilitate efficient care faster to more patients. RayCare is used by all staff at the clinic, e.g., physicians, physicists, treatment planners etc. and is used in all steps of patient care, from registration to radiation treatment at the treatment machine and for treatment follow-up. RayCare is integrated with RayStation and its treatment tools but also with external products and supports communication via HL7 as well as DICOM.

In the Core team you will mainly work with developing and improving our mission-critical event sourcing and micro service framework as well as installation and security aspects for the RayCare product.

About the role

As a System Developer within cybersecurity, you will play a key role in shaping our secure development practices. About the role

As one of our QA/RA Specialists, you will join a team of ten dedicated coworkers. The role requires previous experience from maintenance of Quality Management Systems (QMS), including document management, CAPA management and change management. Proven experience from planning and leading a QMS migration project successfully is a must. The QA/RA team is central to the company’s business as it is responsible not only for the QMS but also for product market clearances, vigilance and internal and external audits. Since the pandemic, the team has grown from seven to twelve members and is expected to continue to grow.

As QA/RA Specialist, you will report to the Quality & Regulatory Affairs Director and be involved in all areas of the department.

Your main tasks:

• Manage the project for transitioning our QMS from one digital platform to another.
• Manage the CAPA process and coach the organization regarding management of individual CAPAs.
• Assist our IT department in validating tools supporting the QMS and in general IT-maturity.
• Manage internal audits, external audits and inspections.

The role is a great opportunity for you to contribute to the care of cancer patients by enabling new software innovations to be quickly and reliably supplied to markets worldwide. You will have contact with all departments at our headquarters and work closely with an international team happy to share knowledge.

About the role

You will be an integral part of the Physics group and the Linac Physics team, which is responsible for dose computation and machine support for different types of linear accelerators.

Examples of tasks during this employment include Monte Carlo simulations of linear accelerators paired with upright patient positioners, implementation of machine parameters and quality assurance tools.

About the project: Advanced upright treatment planning

About 20 million patients are diagnosed with cancer each year, and this number is projected to reach about 30 million by 2040. Half of these receive radiation therapy as part of their treatment. Transitioning from a recumbent position, where the patient lies on a treatment couch, to upright treatments could provide both clinical and cost efficiency gains for these treatments and could help accommodate the increasing need for radiation therapy treatments.

The goal of this PhD project is to develop new mathematical methods and prototype software that will be used to perform research studies within the realm of upright radiotherapy. The project will involve mathematical optimization and computer science, as well as radiotherapy physics. Software development in languages such as C++, C# and Python will be an integral part of the project.

Three examples of possibilities and challenges posed by upright treatments are the following:

• For protons and light ions, a main topic is upright arc therapy, where the beam is delivered from a multitude of directions, preferably while the patient is rotated. Proton and light ion arc therapy in itself is an emerging field in radiation therapy, and the move to upright treatments is anticipated to facilitate the adoption of this type of treatments. Advancements on the accelerator side, such as multi-leaf collimated arcs and machines with fast energy switching can push this development forward, and versatile optimization algorithms for such accelerators have the potential to set a new state-of-the-art in ion treatments.
• For photons, the treatment machines have the potential to become even more compact and allow for faster collimation, and the possibility to translate the patient vertically while rotating opens for helical arcs. To reap the benefit of these new degrees of freedom, new optimization methods are needed.
• New uncertainties arising in upright positions, including challenges regarding patient positioning and organ motion, should be accounted for in the treatment planning process. Extension and use of the integrated algorithms for robust optimization in RayStation will be part of this research.

The PhD student will be affiliated with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and follow the doctoral program in Applied and Computational Mathematics (KTH | Doctoral program). The department has around 30 active PhD students, which can serve as an additional network to the ones at RaySearch and the UPLIFT community. A Swedish PhD program normally runs over 4-5 years and the position is funded throughout this time. The PhD student will be employed by RaySearch with a competitive salary.

Within UPLIFT there will be continuous collaboration with other doctoral candidates, especially from GSI (Germany), CNAO (Italy) and Centre Léon Bérard (France), where the doctoral candidate will have longer or shorter secondments. A natural point of collaboration will include evaluation of the newly developed methods by retrospective planning on clinical patient cases.

About the role

We are now looking for a junior Support Specialist to join the Service team at our head office in central Stockholm. This is a temporary position for one year, starting from June 2025 with good chances of extension.

You will be a part of the Service Department at RaySearch, a dynamic team of different backgrounds and skillsets, responsible for installation, support and training for our customers. Become part of our Global Event team

You will be part of our Event team - today consisting of four dedicated team members - who manage the planning, coordination and execution of our events globally. We have high ambitions for our presence and attach great importance to these projects. The position is located at our head office in Stockholm and is a full-time position.
The event team manages around 160 clinical conferences and other global events annually. As one of our three event coordinators, you will have a central role in ensuring proper attendance at these meetings and trade shows.

Your role

You will work with a wide variety of tasks participating in all steps of the event management process. You will have close collaboration with your team members, the marketing team, sales directors in all markets and our external event agency. Some of the large corporate trade shows and events with a global audience require you to handle detailed project coordination as well as being present onsite during the shows. All activities will be performed in close collaboration with the Event Manager.

In this position, you will primarily work with the planning, execution and follow-up of major international trade shows. You will also be part of arranging customer events, meetings and social activities a few times a year of high importance. You will be required to monitor processes, negotiate with suppliers and report on the status of event budgets and results. You must be able to travel a few times per year to attend some of the larger trade shows.

As you will be working with external suppliers, you should have the ability to collaborate, communicate and negotiate with ease. Experience & skills

• At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a variety of event management and marketing areas or other related work where you have run several projects independently.
• Good experience of collaborating and communicating with third parties and internal staff.
• Hands-on experience working during exhibitions and customer events.
• The ability to research suggested event elements.

• Verbal and written communication skills in English.

About the position

As an IT-Specialist you will be part of an international service team located around the world. The product of focus is our oncology information system, RayCare that enables cancer clinics to improve their way of managing patient information. Your primary responsibility will be to handle installation and technical issues for both current and potential customers. A big part of the work can be managed remote, but the role also requires a moderate amount of travel. The travel will be primarily having advanced planning but may occasionally be short notice. You will be part of an agile team developing innovative solutions using machine learning (ML) algorithms to automate and support the process of improving future cancer treatments.

As a member of the ML Planning team, you will develop deep learning models for medical image analysis to be deployed at cancer clinics, helping them automating their treatment planning process. Treatment planning for radiation therapy constitutes a large-scale mathematical optimization problem with tens of thousands of parameters for the treatment machine as variables. The goal of the optimization is to find the configuration of variables that produces the best possible spatial distribution of radiation dose in the patient geometry. We offer the following two Master Thesis projects related to such optimization of radiation therapy treatment plans:

"Optimization of spatiotemporally fractionated radiation therapy for brain cancer patients"

A radiation therapy treatment is subdivided into a number of fractions that are delivered over a sequence of days. Conventionally, the same amount of dose is delivered in each fraction despite that equal fractions are not necessarily optimal in terms of treatment outcome, due to differences in radiation sensitivity between cancerous and healthy tissues. The purpose of this project is to explore the advantages of treatments that are allowed to vary between the fractions, both as a function of time and space. More specifically, the project aims to investigate the application of such spatiotemporally fractionated treatments to patients with multiple metastatic brain tumors, where they have the potential to reduce the overall biologically effective dose to the healthy brain.

"Optimization of dynamic collimator angle trajectories for brain and breast cancer treatments"

Radiation therapy is typically delivered through a so called multileaf collimator, a tungsten device that can shape the radiation to result in high doses delivered to the tumor and low doses to surrounding healthy tissues. In current practice, the collimator has a static angle throughout the treatment. However, modern treatment machines can rotate the collimator angle dynamically. This project aims to utilize this underused degree of freedom to improve the quality of radiation therapy treatments. We anticipate that this will be particularly useful for brain metastases and breast tumors.

The goal of these thesis projects is to formulate mathematical optimization problems and then to implement methods to find solutions to such problems in our in-house developed treatment planning system RayStation. The projects will involve nonlinear, combinatorial optimization, and/or computer science, implementation in programming languages such as C++ and C# (and possibly Python), and evaluation of the developed methods by retrospective planning on clinical patient cases.

We offer the following Master Thesis project:

"Radiation therapy optimization for patients in an upright position"’

Treatment planning for radiation therapy represents a large-scale mathematical optimization problem where tens of thousands of parameters for the treatment machine must be determined. The purpose of this master thesis project is to extend such optimization to upright radiation therapy where the patient is seated on a rotating chair. Such treatments are emerging as an alternative to the current paradigm of irradiating cancer patients in lying position on a treatment couch. Upright treatments have several potential advantages, including advantageous changes in the volume and location of healthy organs, improved motion management, mechanical advantages due to the use of a stationary treatment machine, and efficiency improvements.

The goal of the thesis project is to develop treatment planning methods that take maximum benefit of the unique characteristics of upright treatments and then assess the quality of such treatments compared to the current clinical standard. The project will involve nonlinear and possibly combinatorial optimization, coordinate system handling, implementation in C++ and C#, and evaluation by retrospective planning on clinical patient cases.

Automatic Quality Assurance for Deep Learning Segmentation of Medical Images

Machine learning-based segmentation of medical images is now the standard approach for accurate and fast patient modeling for treatment planning in radiotherapy. To create safer, faster, and more automated workflows, it is crucial to develop robust automatic quality assurance tools. This master’s thesis will investigate methods for automatically detecting segmentation errors using output-derived metrics from deep learning models. While this topic is gaining significant attention in the literature, there is still no consensus on the most effective approaches. The project will explore some of the most promising methods, evaluating their potential for practical implementation as an additional layer of security for our segmentation models.

About the role

RaySearch is the manufacturer of advanced Oncology and Radiotherapy software for medical professionals.

RaySearch is looking for a new Application Specialist to reinforce our global Service team. The position is full-time and permanent, based at our Stockholm HQ or from your home office in one of the countries listed below. The product of focus is our oncology information system, RayCare.

About the position

In this position you will have a central role in our Sales team. You will bring structure to our sales operations and provide support in all steps of the sales process, from customer lead to installation and first treatment. You will become one of our CRM-experts, responsible for documentation of customer account information and milestones as well as quote generations. Become part of our Global Event team

You will be part of our Event team - today consisting of two dedicated team members - who manage the planning, coordination and execution of our events globally. We have high ambitions for our presence and attach great importance to these projects. The position is located at our head office in Stockholm and is a full-time position.
The event team manages around 130 clinical conferences and other global events annually. As one of our two event coordinators, you will have a central role in ensuring proper attendance at these meetings and trade shows.

Your role

You will work with a wide variety of tasks participating in all steps of the event management process. You will have close collaboration with your team members, the marketing team, sales directors in all markets and our external event agency. Some of the large corporate trade shows and events with a global audience require you to handle detailed project coordination as well as being present onsite during the shows. All activities will be performed in close collaboration with the Event Manager.

In this position, you will primarily work with the planning, execution and follow-up of major international trade shows as well as support our sales directors with their smaller regional meetings and trade shows. You will also be part of arranging customer events, meetings and webinars a few times a year of high importance. You will be required to monitor processes, negotiate with suppliers and report on the status of event budgets and results. You must be able to travel 3-4 times per year globally to attend some of the larger trade shows.

In this job, you will have a wide network within the various departments of the company as well as a lot of customer and supplier contacts.

• Work with the event team and service department to generate and record webinars, to be utilized in various channels.

• Manage the maintenance and development of the RaySearch media bank (The marketing and sales collateral portal).
• Procurement and subcontracting of external agency support to produce marketing collateral when needed. Including: Copywriters, design support, and digital marketing.
• Ensure that all marketing communications follow the brand guidelines and company tone-of-voice.

Your profile

We are looking for a marketer with documented experience in content creation and inbound marketing processes, including experience working at a medical technology company. Someone who can breakdown and communicate complex products and services. Requirements:

• Documented experience working with a medical technology marketing material.
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in a similar marketing or communications roles.
• Advanced fluency in the English language (both verbal and written)
• You have strong time management and project management skills – have an eye for detail and can manage many deadlines and open projects and tasks simultaneously.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our head office in Stockholm. You will be part of our global marketing department, which handles the strategic planning and creative work for all of our markets. We have high ambitions for our communications and place great emphasis on design aspects.

Your role

The main purpose of this position is to support with design deliverables for the marketing team, by translating brand and marketing objectives into beautiful and clear visual communications.

Your main tasks:

• Provide design and layout support of required marketing materials; including advertising, digital marketing, email newsletters, events, and other marketing collateral - using guidelines to ensure brand consistency.
• Deliver artwork specified in the marketing production plan and weekly project meetings.
• Commission printers and other media producers.
• Add and maintain marketing collateral to the media bank, in conjunction with other media bank admins.
• Provide layout and design update support for the RaySerach website.
• Create presentation slides and transform existing business presentations into powerful visuals.
• Occasionally support the motion designers with layouts and style frames.
• Push the envelope by tracking design trends and proposing new avenues for the marketing team to explore and utilize.

Johan, senior developer/architect

Johan has been with RaySearch since 2015 and is part of a team that focuses on hands-on architecture and supporting the other development teams in larger features and refactoring. As our new colleague, you will develop, maintain and modernize the RayStation code base in close collaboration with the other development and research teams. The dose planning system RayStation is developed by a dozen agile teams with expertise in for example, treatment with linear accelerators, proton machines and image processing. The teams are responsible for the overall design, requirements, risk management, testing and implementation. We develop our products in close collaboration with leading cancer clinics. We work with techniques and languages ??such as C#, domain-driven design, WPF. Algorithms and related infrastructure in C++.
